ENGAGING WITH OUR COMMUNITY
How we engaged with the community prior to finalising our application:
8 week initial communications and engagement program
2 community information sessions
34 attendees at information sessions
20 local meetings and discussions
36 houses door knocked
50+ electronic communications
Flyers distributed to 750 residents with 25 stakeholders registering for updates
Our commitment to you
The key themes we heard throughout consultation and reflected in our plans includes:
Traffic and car parking
We heard feedback on existing and future traffic conditions from local residents, including future supermarket operations and worker car parking during construction. As this was the key theme of feedback we heard, we have compiled a factsheet here for you.
Community character
We heard the community’s desire for a design that respects the neighbourhood character. Our proposal responds by concentrating height on the main road and stepping down to be sympathetic to adjacent homes. This strategic design also minimises overshadowing and overlooking, ensuring the building fits harmoniously and respects the amenity of its neighbours.
Planning
We are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement which we will submit for assessment to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. This application will be for a rezoning and Development Application as a State Significant Development proposal. As we have finalised initial community consultation, our next stage is to lodge documentation with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in the coming weeks.
Community engagement
Woolworths has undertaken proactive engagement with local stakeholders and residents. We heard community priorities to help update and refine our plans. Examples of feedback that has resulted in proposed changes and updates, include:
- Ensuring a construction and traffic management plan accommodates truck deliveries and pick ups outside of school pick up and drop off times including dedicated noisy works hours to ensure minimal disruption during school hours
- Changing the building design and balconies to minimise visual overlooking to neighbours
Improving public domain to ensure pedestrian safety is maximised around the site which includes:
- New larger footpaths with improved visibility around the corner of Victoria & Westminster Rd including a proposed bus relocation
- Proposed warning measures around the loading dock for trucks exiting which includes signage, lighting and warning sounds
- Increased tree planting, particularly along Eltham St
- Additional road improvement measures are also being investigated as part of the proposal which may include road cushions/speed humps, median strip and pedestrian island improvements, signage and reflective light poles
In addition to the proactive consultation, there will be a Public Exhibition phase by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure where you can also have your say. This is managed by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
